VICTORIAN antique Whitby jet brooch with a Gypsy boy painted porcelain portrait
Price: $128.00
DescriptionVICTORIAN antique Tyrolean boy painted portrait brooch that is set in wonderful Whitby jet, circa 1870, 2-1/8". These plaques were often made in Austria and sent to Whitby, England, to be mounted in jet for jewelry. There is a small chip on the back, some scratching on the portrait and a minute bit of wear around the rope edge, as can be seen in the photo, so it is priced accordingly. The portraits of young Tyrolean boys were often used in jewelry, and are also called the "gypsy boy" or "green boy".
