BUTTERFLY clip with aurora borealis set in gold tone, 2" by 1-1/2". Be
sure to look at the photo of the back, which has unusual double clips. It’s not
signed, but it is similar to the DeRosa patent number 2026934. Since the aurora
borealis stone weren’t invented until about 1953, it has to be that age or
newer. In order to wear this, you will need a fairly open-weave fabric so that
the legs can be "woven" into it. And don’t miss the little
red rhinestone eyes!

STARET butterfly pin… that old classic from the 1940’s! It is unsigned,
but I have had these in several color combinations, both signed and
unsigned. It is 3 inches across with marvelous purple and clear
rhinestones. I was told that these were also made by Schrager.

REGENCY multi-colored rhinestone butterfly pins, a wonderful set of
three that are such fun to wear together! The rhinestones are in brilliant
colors of aqua, red, pink, clear, yellow, white and peach, and they are all
in a japanned black setting that sets them off perfectly. The largest brooch
is 2-5/8" across, the middle sized one is 1-1/2" and the smallest is 1". The
two small ones are signed, the large on is not. These are the very same
pieces seen in Christie Romero’s "Warman’s Jewelry", 3rd Ed, page 203.

BUTTERFLY TREMBLER 18k brooch
with diamonds, lapis and red corundum ruby, 2-1/2" by 2". The diamonds are
sometimes called old style Polki diamonds and there is a row of pierced gold
above them to allow light to pass in a lacy way. The enameling is
aqua, green, pink and white. The back is a pierced gold plate to which the
springs that make the wings tremble are attached. This trembler style is called
"En Tremblant" in French, but this is not a French brooch. Total weight
is about 39.18 grams or 1.25 ounces.

BLOCK Fred A Block sterling butterfly fur clip with unfoiled rhinestones
in green, golden, pale yellow and clear, all in gilt sterling, 3-1/2" by
1-1/2".
Block was a Chicago ready-to-wear maker. It is thought that his line of
jewelry was made, at least in part, by the Sandor Goldberg Company of New
York, hence you will see some of the same pieces marked "Sandor" as well.
The Vogue company made similar pieces as well. This information, can be seen
in Brunalti’s "Tribute to American Costume Jewelry" on page 141-2.

STERLING gilt filigree butterfly brooch with marcasites, 3" by 2".
Marked on the back "Germany sterling". Designer Alice Caviness had these in
her jewelry line, too, also made in Germany but with her label added. This
one isn’t signed by her though. On the head of the butterfly is an orange
color as you can see in the photo, and the finish is a soft gold rather than
a shiny finish. View
