BOUCHER 1937-1971

Marcel Boucher was one of
costume jewelry’s most respected designers. He began by as a model maker
for Cartier in New York City then moved on to create his own line in about 1937. Making jewelry with the marks "MB", "Boucher"
and "Marboux", his designs were fluid and detailed and his enamels have a
colorful translucent quality that
make them a particular favorite. A Boucher collector tells me that
Boucher often offered 3 variations of a design, one all paved for the
Holidays, one enamel for Spring and one in gold and pave for the
Summer/Fall season.

MB BOUCHER unsigned hand holding torch fur clip circa 1942. It is a hand holding torch of liberty with a
big pink faceted glass flame set in gold- and silver-tone, 3". It is marked only "patn
pend" but the patent is #131,798, Boucher, circa 1942. There is also an
advertisement from that era saying it is by Boucher. There are
very minute
fleabites in the pink flame, barely visible and only under 5x magnification,
with and light finish wear on the gold tone arm. This can be worn as a
patriotic piece or solely for it’s beauty.

MB BOUCHER Premiere Fleur brooch with aqua blue molded glass and clear
rhinestones. It has the single initial "D" on the back and it is
2-1/2" by 2-1/3", circa 1940. In a very faint hand engraved numbers is
"91-66-27", also on the back. Like some other jewelry from this era, the pin back opens only 45%
of the way, and it should not be forced. This glass line of jewelry came
as a brooch and also a set of fur clips, and there’s also another ad for a more simple brooch. An
ad for a brooch from this group was run in "Mademoiselle Magazine" in
the March 1940 edition. Another
brooch in this series can be seen in the Deanna Cera book "Amazing Gems"
on page 125 where she dates it 1937.

BOUCHER Premier Fleur flower brooch with a white poured glass flower, clear
rhinestone bract and gold plated leaves, made in the 1940s. Signed on the back
with the "MB" logo, it was made in the 1940s and it is 3-1/2" by 1-5/8". This
line of Boucher jewelry using glass flowers was also made as a brooch and also a
set of fur clips. An ad for this brooch was run in the March 1940 edition of
"Mademoiselle Magazine". Another brooch in this series can be seen in the
Deanna Cera book "Amazing Gems" on page 125 where she dates it 1937.

MB BOUCHER rare and very large clear rhinestone pave flower brooch
with petals that curve in and out to give it a beautiful dimension and a
nice movement in the design. It is marked
with the Boucher Phrygian cap mark, it is 4-1/2" long by about 2-1/4" wide.
According to a long time Boucher collector, this was introduced Christmas
1939 and appeared again in ads Christmas 1940. It was very expensive at the
time, $35.00.

rhinestones set in rhodium silver tone, 3-3/4". The "MB" mark on the back is
mis-struck so very hard to see, but I guarantee this is a Boucher. It
photographs make the rhinestones look gray but the actual stones are clear and sparkling.

ENAMEL orchid brooch with
clear rhinestones and artificial pearl dangling stamen set in rhodium, 2-3/4". The
enamel is a lovely translucent peach tinting toward soft green. This
fabulous brooch looks like exactly a Boucher but has no markings.
Boucher did do a flower similar to this one, but with a longer stem
portion.

MB BOUCHER figural fish brooch in gold plated sterling with a
topaz colored unfoiled rhinestone belly and clear rhinestone accents, 3" by
2". The design is amazing with ruffled and overlapping fins and tail and a
swirl for an eye. This is not signed well and I think it was mis-struck
because all you can see is the tip of the

Boucher Phrygian cap mark, but it is also
marked with "V 8" . The Boucher patent number 139,675 also
confirms that this is by Boucher and was made in 1944, and it’s a
wonderful piece to own and to wear. This is a fish with dimension and personality!

pave pin and earrings with faceted red crystal hearts and clear rhinestones set
in both silver and gold plated metal. The brooch is 3" wide,

years and this set is actually from the 1940s.

earrings are marked "sterling". The open backed invisibly set red stones
just glow
with light. A major Boucher jewelry collector told me that this set, "came in
most gem colors, ruby, montana, sapphire, aqua and emerald as well as a pearl
version. The set was marketed between Spring 1952 and Spring 1953".
