SCHREINER jewelry was made from about 1951 to the 1970s. The company was
started by Henry Schreiner, who had worked before WWI for other jewelry
companies, and the pieces were hand made. Known for their high quality
stones and unusual color combinations, trademarks of Schreiner jewelry are
the reverse setting of rhinestones (point up instead of point down), the
hook and eye back construction and the "donut" clips on the earring backs.
Large, colorful and eye-catching, these are favorites of most rhinestone
jewelry collectors. In Fall of 2020 prices for this maker’s pieces suddenly
soared for some reason with brooches selling for $1,000-2,500, and the
famous ruffles for $5,000 and over each. If you find a piece at a reasonable
price, grab it, but beware the sellers who are claiming their unsigned brooches
Schreiner when they really aren’t.

It is 3-1/8" by 2-1/2", a nice showy size. I have seen this same brooch signed by
Schreiner and also one signed by Carnegie, and then I have seen some that
are not signed at all. No matter who made it, it is a magical piece

SCHREINER brooch and earrings made of frosted glass leaves in blue and
white in a gold tone setting, made in the 1960s. The brooch is 2-5/8" by
2-1/3" and the clip back earrings 7/8". They are accented with small glass
pearls and shimmer in the light. I have now seen this same set signed
"Schreiner NY" but this set is not signed. The Carole Tanenbaum and Eve
Townsend book "Schreiner- Master of 20th Century Costume Jewelry" shows this
on page 52. The designer Hattie Carnegie was also fond of these leaves and
used them in her jewelry, and I have also seen them in similar unsigned
pieces, too. This is a really lovely set in excellent condition.

signed pale aqua and chocolate brown large brooch/pendant necklace
combination with matching earrings, an art glass pale aqua veined cabochon
and four more along the edge of the brooch. Lovely chocolate brown
rhinestones complete this wonderful set, which was made in the 1960s.
It is all in a bronze-colored metal. The
large brooch is 3-1/4" across, the matching chain is 18-21" long and the
clip back earrings 1-1/4" by 7/8". This is so much prettier in person than

STARBURST brooch in red and blue
rhinestones, a large dazzling piece brooch in a japanned setting, circa 1950,
3-1/2" by 3-1/2". It has no signature, but it is put
together with hook-and-eye back construction somewhat in the style of a
Schreiner. However, a piece of jewelry cannot be attributed to a maker by
construction alone, as we know, and this has no reverse mounted stones that
would be typical of a Schreiner. It’s lovely, whoever made it! This was on the cover of the Vogue
Magazine’s Christmas 1950-51 Edition, as seen here in the last photo.

KRAMER clear rhinestones
"snowflake" brooch. This looks identical to the red and blue rhinestone
brooch #Y4091 at left, and has the same hook-and-eye back construction in
the style of a Schreiner as well. But this is marked "Kramer of New York".
The owner, Elizabeth, says it is more flat and less dimensional than most
Schreiner brooches.
Just shows how tricky attribution of unsigned jewelry can be!
