BOUQUET brooch with green pressed glass flower petals and leaves,
natural red rubies, a large emerald cabochon and blue natural sapphires (all
except one). It is set in gold plated silver. This brooch is 3-1/3" by
1-3/4" and it has the European style pin back and closure and is set in gold
plated silver. There may be a tiny touch mark on the pin stem, but if that
is what it is, it is too tiny to read. I do think this is a European piece
that is both beautiful and unusual.

DECO very unusual extra long brooch with black and green glass elements
on a silver backing, sparkling with many wonderful marcasites, 6" long and 1-3/4" at the most wide. One green glass piece has a minute chip at the point, difficult to notice
without magnification. I
have never seen anything quite like this, and it looks terrific on a coat or
a jacket
lapel. I suspect it is from the first third of the 1900s.

HAND DRAWN Ruth Kamke
sketch for the fur clip at the right. Ruth did this drawing after the brooch
was made, and
she drew it for another dealer friend of mine, from whom I bought it. What a treasure, especially
for a serious collector. Not only is it a rare and lovely piece of
jewelry, but it has great provenance as well.
FALLON and KAPPEL or F&K was a manufacturing company in New York that
made jewelry for other companies, Eisenberg and Hattie Carnegie for example.
RUTH KAMKE was one who created many designs for them, especially Eisenberg
pieces, and many of their most iconic were designed by her during the 1930s and
1940s, especially her figurals.
|
RUTH
KAMKE designed RARE flower fur clip with three dazzling clear
pave rhinestone flowers that each have red collet set rhinestone stamen and green
pearlized enameled leaves. It is a nice large size at 4-1/4" by 4-1/4".
When I say "rare", I have been told that Ruth said there were only two of these ever made! I
have seen one other, but two leaves were missing off of it.
Designed by Ruth Kamke for the jewelry company
Fallon and Kappel, circa 1940, this clip came to me along with Ruth’s sketch of
it and a photo of Kamke with her jewelry spread out on a table in front of her.
Also included are Ruth’s hand written notes and she etched her own signature on
the back of this clip which was made in the 1940s. F&K made jewelry for
other well know jewelry companies as well.

PHOTO of the jewelry designer Ruth Kamke with some of her wonderful jewelry

Many of her most well known designs were for the Eisenberg company.
I believe Ruth died in 2017, but her genius in jewelry lives on.

VEST made of 30 rhinestone brooch-shaped elements attached with golden
chain, said to be from the exclusive French Room of Hess Brothers of Allentown,
Pennsylvania, circa 1960s. This is difficult to photograph, but the brooch elements are lovely and remind me a
bit of Schreiner brooches, but they are not signed. Each has an art glass center
surrounded by colorful rhinestones in beautiful colors. This fits like a vest
with elements both front and back, and each brooch-like element is 2-1/3" by
2-1/8" in size. This lays better on a fabric with some weight,
like a sweater for instance. In all my years in the business, I have never
seen another one like it!

Now here is an unusual thing… on the left is a signed Nettie Rosenstein Asian
lady brooch circa 1960.
But on the right, looking like her cousin, is a pendant marked "Germany
sterling" on the back, and just a bit larger than the Rosenstein brooch.
The owner says, "… this is a remarkable piece, one you are not likely to find
another of. Since Nettie didn’t patent her designs, nor did she leave historical
information on her career, designs and the like, ascertaining additional
information regarding this fantastical piece may just have to continue to be a
mystery…" |

TORCH BRACELET gold plated metal hinged bangle bracelet with clear
rhinestone and silver torches applied on three sides, . It is
marked on the inside "PAT
1994826" and has the leter R in a square mark, the meaning of which is unknown. It is hinged in
two places and it is in excellent vintage condition. GK Lowe applied for
this patent in November of 1934 and I imagine this bracelet was made about
that same time. Miriam Haskell also used this same base bangle in some of
her bracelets, and this is one
of them
HERE, shown for reference only. This would also have been used by
other jewelry companies, so I do not think it is by Haskell. It is a comfortable and versatile style,

NECKLACE of rose and blue colored rhinestones, the combination of Dragon’s breath-like cabochons and blue rhinestones make up
spectacular and unusual bib necklace. This is truly one of the most
beautiful necklaces I have owned in my 30 years in the vintage jewelry business.
I thought it might be by Schreiner, but so far I can find no definite proof of
that. I have seen one signed "Austria" in different colors. Whoever made it, it is wonderful in every way. The rarely used rose
cabochons have a dimpled look with a rainbow effect in them, the blue
rhinestones are teardrop shaped and they are the perfect accent to bring out the
beauty of this combination. The wearable length is 15" to 17" and the
front drop is 4" long. Probably made in the early 1960s, it is rare and a real
treat to wear. Please look at all of the photos to see the full effect!

GOLD TONE large bouquet brooch
with faceted topaz glass teardrop beads, 5-1/8" by 2-1/2", circa 1940. See
this same brooch in blue in Ettinger’s "Popular Jewelry, 1840-1940" on page
161. It is in excellent condition and while the finish on the gold metal is
like a Miriam Haskell piece, I have not found any other reason to make that
attribution. View
