usually better made, more substantial and for me, more desirable.

LEE MANICHETTI wrap around necklace with pink, blue, purple and
green cabochons on a necklace of clear rhinestones.
Lee Menichetti (1931-1997) was known for apparel and
sculpture as well as for jewelry.
He was
Italian-American lived in New York where he had his own
design company. His beginning was in the world of fashion and he was
also a Broadway costume designer. He worked with jewelry design and
metal sculpture in the 1960s and 1970s.
There is an Egyptian style Polcini necklace, probably from the
1960s, with the original tag with his name on it as the designer, so he
also did some work for Polcini.

DAVID MANDEL’S The Show Must
Go On unusual and colorful rhinestone brooch with elements that dangle from
the main rectangular pin, signed on the back and a total of 5-1/3" by 4".
The green rectangular stone is a green unfoiled one that is ridged into four
square pyramids on the reverse, and this is signed on three elements. It
reminds me of a holiday pin with packages, bows and trim..

Danny says, "The type of jewelry we
make is classified as costume, so plated. Underneath the plating is
brass, pewter and potentially steel. Everything gets a copper plate,
then silver plate, then some treatments to give it an "antiqued look" So
it can be referred to silver plate with an antiqued finish." |
DANNY POLLACK artisan created brooch, an amazing insect brooch
with rose and blue Swarovski aurora borealis set into plated multi-layered
settings including the upper wings, antennae, legs, 2nd layer of wings, body
and beautifully finished underside. It’s 4-1/4" by 2-3/4" and while it is
substantial, it is also easy and comfortable to wear. The care that went into this shows a
truly
masterful hand! It is one-of-a-kind and was made in January of 2019 and it
was inspired by an alien spacecraft. |
"The stones in the beetle
were a rose aurora borealis by Swarovski, and sometimes we use vintage
glass bought in Rhode Island Also, our plating is extremely strong. It
lasts for decades and will not rub off like conventional costume
jewelry."

SANDOR
mask fur clip with a sterling silver headdress and green carved face, made
in the 1940s. This amazing clip is 2-1/2" by 2-1/4", total weight 1.5
ounces. It is signed "Sandor" on the back. I believe both the green face
and the cabochons are made of glass. This is a rare clip, difficult to find
and wonderful as well!. Sandor jewelry was made from 1938 to 1972 and this
is one of their earlier pieces.

SANDOR blue and yellow rhinestone earrings in a copper colored wire filigree setting that is 3/4" across. The earring
findings are both marked "sterling" only, but I think that is for the
findings because the finish looks more copper colored. These were made
in the 1940s and judging from signed Sandor earrings I have seen before,
I think Sandor made these, too, rather than Hobe.

OLGA TRITT unsigned snake and apple parure probably inspired by
Adam and Eve. Be sure to see how the the backs of these pieces
are made and the great detail, 14-1/4" necklace with 3-1/4" front drop,
bracelet 7" by 7/8", screw back earrings 7/8". The
patent, shown below, is what identified the maker. There is slight wear on the
finish in some places.
According to the "Palm Beach
Daily News" in an article dated March 10, 1934, she had her own shop at 345
Worth Avenue "across from the Everglades Club". That article describes her
crystal, diamond, precious stones and elephant hair jewelry for women and
cufflinks for men. An ad in the same paper 12 days later promotes her
"jewels of Individuality" and also states "great reductions on all my rare
gems". A 1929 photo shows Jeanette MacDonald wearing Tritt
jewelry:
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2101975040/nm0531776. A patent #161185
(118255) for Coro indicates in the references that she was making jewelry in
1949, and I have seen ads for her jewelry as late as 1971 (I think Olga’s
daughter Alva Davidson ran the shop after Olga passed away), stating her
shop address as 18 East 57th, then 569 Madison Avenue, and later 424 Park
Avenue, New York City. So far, all the other jewelry she made seems to have
been fine jewelry, not costume as this set is. She died in March 1968 in New
York City at age 81. View

VIGNERI
Lucite golden layers c-cuff bracelet, 6-5/8" around the inside, 2" wide
with a 1-1/3" opening. According to Anne Vigneri, "this was probably
made in the late 80’s .We produced Plexiglas "art to wear" from 1982 to
1994. We made very few of this particular design due to the difficulty
in it’s production. It was made from a solid piece of Lucite (Plexiglas)
that was cut and painted in a flat "bar" shape, then heated until it
became malleable. It was then formed by hand to fit the wrist… very
labor intensive. At the time it was made it would have retailed for
about $140.00. The "Vigneri" line was sold in upscale
stores like Neiman-Marcus, Saks Fifth Ave, etc., and was featured in the
editorial pages of Vogue and Bazaar".
