TRIFARI

TRIFARI is one of the brightest stars of all the costume jewelry makers,
beginning as Trifari, Krussman &
Fishel in the 1920s. Early jewelry was marked "Jewels by
Trifari" or "TKF" until the 1940’s, when the mark was changed to
"Trifari". Since about 1994, they have been a part of the Monet jewelry
group.

Like many companies, the pieces they
made in the 1940’s are among the most desirable, and the demi-lunes are
particular favorites. Whether it is the enameled clips, the
fruit salad parures, the demi-lune flowers or the molded glass gem-tones,
Trifari rates high as a collector’s favorite.

rhinestones set in rhodium plated silver tone metal with clear rhinestones
and lovely green and brown enameling, 3-3/4" in length. This was originally a fur clip
that was converted long ago to a brooch. It is not signed now because the
mark was on the fur clip top, but it is patent number 131,885 so made
in March of 1942 or a bit later. Other than the conversion and a few tiny
fleabites in the enamel, it is in very good vintage condition and a rare and
very wonderful piece. View

TRIFARI jelly belly jewelry

Named for their clear transparent Lucite bellies,
"Jelly bellies" can be both beautiful and whimsical. Most were made in the
1940’s, although some continued to be fashioned into the early 1960’s.
Collector’s usually agree that in order to qualify as a true "jelly belly",
the belly portion must be made of Lucite, not glass, and must be clear and
not colored. The most coveted pieces are the larger pieces with Lucite set
in sterling vermeil (gold washed sterling) and the larger figurals. Trifari
made a number of these, but other makers made them as well. For more Jelly

the book, this has been professionally converted into a brooch.
Because of the conversion, the Trifari and sterling marks are no longer
