FEATURE: VICTORIAN TURQUOISE

LOVE THAT COLOR!
Used in pendants, rings or bracelets, wherever you find it, you know that the Victorian's loved their Persian turquoise. They liked turquoise with no matrix at all, and in that time, it was often used symbolized eternal love. Associated with the forget-me-not flowers, as in the rings made of this material, it was a sentimental favorite.

The combination of yellow gold and the gem stone turquoise was a popular one during the Victorian era. That isn't to say it wasn't set in silver as well, but it does seem there is more of the yellow gold to this day. According to Wikipedia, the word "turquoise" came about when the earliest of these stones was brought from Turkey into Europe around the 16th century. Turquoise was also was mined in many other countries, with differences in the fineness, matrix and color. Persian turquoise tends to have little to no matrix, as you can see in the pieces shown here. Turquoise was a popular stone for jewelry throughout the Victorian era.

FEATURE: VICTORIAN TURQUOISE RINGS

We were delighted to have been offered a small group of Victorian Persian turquoise rings set in karat gold recently, and since it's a big favorite, it was a delight to buy them! Now they are ready to share with you.

There were many designs in these rings, and they were also combined with other stones... opals, pearls, diamonds, garnets and more. The are fun to wear in multiples, too. I often wear a small band of turquoise and diamond with my anniversary band, for instance.

The little flower shaped stones in a ring symbolized forget-me-nots, the flower of everlasting love. I read in an historically based novel recently that prior to the late Victorian era, these turquoise rings were commonly used as wedding rings. Sadly, I can find no reference to back that idea, but I continue to look.

Fun to collect and wear, fun to give as a gift to a special person, these are all little treasures!
