The MORNING GLORY web site has been very active this year, as always. New photos and information are added every week, sometimes every day! We will also have a smaller selection of our things at ANTEEKS on MENAUL, an antique mall at 8908 Menaul NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is east of the Uptown area, so if you take I-40 to the Louisiana Ave exit, go north and then turn west on Menaul, you will find it on the south side of the street. Be sure to let us know when you are coming and we can make an appointment if you want to see us in person. We continue to enjoy selling and buying on our web site, as we have for almost 30 years!

DEROSA JEWELRY 1934-1970s |
Let me begin by confessing that I am a big fan and collector of DeRosa jewelry! It's been one of my top favorites for years, so let me know if you have any for sale. I will always pay really fair prices for pieces that I like.
Ralph DeRosa jewelry is known for its three-dimensional layered designs, unusual rhinestones, and translucent enameling. DeRosa jewelry designs include floral, figural, retro motifs, and designs inspired by the precious jewelry of the era. It is not always easy to find because they didn't make many pieces of each style, but is certainly more than worth the search. After years of collecting and selling this wonderful brand, I have found that the majority of their pieces were signed, so beware unsigned attributions where there is no reference material to substantiate it. This New York City firm was at 404 Fourth Street in New York City and their jewelry was from the mid-1930's until the 1970's. Like many jewelry makers, their 1940-50's jewelry is their best, in my opinion.
DeRosa is one of my very favorite makers and I collect it myself. As a serious collector, it is fun to know that many of the pieces shown below are the only ones I have seen in all the years I've been handling vintage jewelry, and that's almost 30 years now. You really must see them in person to fully appreciate all the detail.
Hand painted illustrations from the De Rosa Jewelry Company seem to have been the first step in the design process. These miniature works of art are from a collection of over 300 similar illustrations that I am happy to own and use as a reference. Several are dated in the 1940's, and many have hand written notes about how each piece should be produced. They seem to have been done by several different artists, as the painting styles do vary. Many jewelry designers didn't work on paper first, but for those who did, these illustrations are illuminating as to the thought processes and design ideas that went into creating this amazing jewelry.

SWAROVSKI HOLIDAY jewelry
|
Who makes more dazzling jewelry than the Swarovski Company? They have always used the best crystals, hand polished finishes and wonderful designs, and their holiday jewelry is especially admired.
SWAROVSKI fashioned some of the best and most collectible Holiday brooches ever made, especially their Christmas trees. While it is fun to try to date them, we understand that Swarovski did not always "retire" their jewelry pieces annually, like they often did with their crystal figurines. So unless they are marked, some of the dates on our reference page are estimates or dates of issue only. I think there were over 50 different styles of tree pins made between about 1996-2009 alone.
In the Mary Morrison "Christmas Jewelry" book there is a paragraph on Swarovski that says they "offered two lines of Christmas jewelry: The Jeweler's Collection... through department stores since about 1980, and the high end Signature Collection... in boutiques since 1994."
Using their high quality crystals and finishes, these pieces also have some of the best enamel work and lovely designs. Swarovski made tree brooches annually for different sales locations, such as Nordstrom, Rockefeller Center, etc, as well as for general sale, and some were dated on the back.
