FEATURE: HOBE Framed Purses
|
With the holiday festivities coming up, an unusual accessory that will draw lots of attention is a Hobe framed purse with a body often made by Josef. Some have intricately hand-worked and softly colored bodies, and some are more plain. But the brilliant Hobe circa 1950's frames of multi-colored rhinestones make each on special!
Josef of Paris made fabulous handbags, not all with the Hobe frames. They were beaded in France and then imported in the 1940-50s. A vintage ad for these purses said, "The stitched and beaded body was made by well-known purse maker Josef, and the frame by Hobe, circa 1950." At the bottom, the ad says, "... evening bags by Josef... jewelry to match, bracelets $79.50, pin clips $35.00, earrings $19.75." Next to each purse is a price ranging from $125.00 to $175.00, a lot of money back then! They also made fabulous dresser boxes and compacts, which are very hard to find. We do have one box for sale on our web site right now. To see our available Hobe purses, just click HERE. And this fabulous box at the right will be on the web site soon. Hobe made some of my favorite jewelry, too, and we have some amazing pieces from them HERE, many from pre-1950. To see what's new on Morning Glory, please click HERE.

FEATURE: VICTORIAN Mechanical Pencils
|
We find that collections sometimes begin almost by accident, and so it was with these charming little Victorian gold and turquoise mechanical retractable pencils. They are a long shot from the wooden Farber pencils we had in early grade school. I saw one, loved it, bought it, and then more just followed! Not only are some decorated with Persian turquoise and engraved details, some have a stone at one end as well. Fun to collect and wear, fun to give as a gift to a special person, these are all little treasures. Victorians had such lovely accessories, many of which have lasted for well over 100 years.
