We are just off Interstate-40 at the foot of the beautiful Sandia Mountains. We have about 50 friendly and knowledgeable dealers in a 10,000 square foot clean and well-lit mall building. In addition, we offer maps to the other local shops, places to sit and relax a bit while shopping, soft drinks and even sparkling clean bathrooms. It is a really fun and interesting place to shop with a wide variety of antiques and collectibles.

HATTIE CARNEGIE JEWELRY 1939-1979

HATTIE CARNEGIE was the creator of a fashion empire designing not only clothing and accessories but jewelry as well. Carnegie costume jewelry was made from the 1940's to the 1970's. She often used specific themes in her jewelry lines, an example being her Oriental group, her beaded flowers and her poured glass pieces. Some of her major designers were Norman Norell, Pauline Trigere, Peggy Moonan, Nandine Effront. Elegant and innovative, her jewelry remains both wearable and collectible today. Jewelry under this name was produced for years after her death in 1956. Hattie Carnegie jewelry was made from about 1939-1979.

Her earlier jewelry was marked with the "HC" mark, and pieces with that older mark are some of my favorites. They tend to be heavier and larger than her later pieces, and her fur clips are well balanced and easy to wear. She used wonderful elements like glass cabochons, pressed glass leaves and overlapping elements.

FEATURE: MIRIAM HASKELL ~ Glass Petals

When Frank Hess was Miriam Haskell's head designer, he made some of the most amazing pieces of jewelry. Some of my favorites are the ones that include glass petals in beautiful colors. These were some of the materials used during the 1940s WWII years and for a bit after. Combined with the intricate glass bead work, they make for a wonderful look unique to Haskell at the time.

Frank Hess was the head designer from about 1926 to 1960 and his talent is unrivaled. In the early days of Haskell they put no identifying marks on their jewelry at all. As a mater of fact it was not marked until about 1947. Today the early unsigned pieces can be identified from vintage art work and advertisements, and by their wonderful detail, hand work and design. Read more about HASKELL EARLY UNSIGNED JEWELRY, see our article in JEWEL CHAT and the feature on HASKELL ART WORK & ADVERTISING.
