VICTORIAN antique 9 carat gold and turquoise ring with a yin-yang design and two pearls
Price: $368.00
DescriptionVICTORIAN 9 carat and turquoise ring with a yin-yang design accented with two seed pearls. There is one illegible stamped mark inside the band, and this tests as 9 karat gold, size 6-7/8 and runs just shy of 1/2" along the finger, and it weighs a total of .06 ounces. Persian turquoise is a beautiful blue color turquoise with no matrix at all and it was originally mined in Persia. In New Mexico, the Cerrillos mines just south of Santa Fe were also found to have a similar type of turquoise. The story is that this turquoise was used by the Tiffany company in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it may have even been the source of the lovely aqua color in their advertising.
The turquoise used in Victorian jewelry has an interesting history, and to read more about it, click HERE.
