Turquoise like this is often called Persian turquoise as a generic term, whether from Persia or not. Persian turquoise is a beautiful blue color with no matrix at all and it was originally mined in Persia and then brought to Europe. In New Mexico, the Cerrillos mines just south of Santa Fe were also found to have a similar type of turquoise. The story is that this turquoise was used by the Tiffany company in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it may have even been the source of the lovely aqua color in their advertising.
