VICTORIAN Whitby jet beads pendant with Tyrolean boy
Price: $338.00
DescriptionVICTORIAN Whitby jet beads pendant with a hand painted porcelain green Tyrolean or gypsy boy portrait, 2-1/2" by 1-1/4" pendant on a graduated strand of beautifully hand carved jet beads in alternating twist and geometrically carved designs, an 18" necklace.
It is amazing to look at these beads and realize they were made by hand one at a time with simple tools, circa 1870. What amazing workmanship! And the plaques were made in Austria and sent to Whitby, England, to be mounted into jet for jewelry.
They are a young Tyrolean boy, but are also called the "gypsy boy" or "green boy". For similar pieces see page 32 in Helen Muller's wonderful book "Jet Jewellery and Ornaments".
All items in excellent vintage condition unless otherwise noted.
